Over 90 Days In Europe

Hi all, is anyone else worried about long trips to Europe now we are restricted to the 90 days in 180 that Schengen visa-free allows?

We fear not being able to spend long periods over the summer particularly in France as well as other shorter trips to elsewhere in Europe.

France does have a 180 day visa available but aside from its cost and need to visit the French embassy in London, it also appears to need an address in France - something us tourers don't have.

Has anyone else looked at this restriction?

They will happily take our money for 90 days and if we over stay our time they will take even more in the form of fines as the icing upon their cake laughing.

In hindsight maybe we should have heeded that 'be careful what you wish for' warning. I wonder how many more than the 3.78 % now rue the day?😱

No idea.  Maybe many, maybe none, maybe a few, it's totally irrelevant smile.  180 days in 360 is more than enough for me even if it is split into two parts.  Time to move on wink.

Absolutely' we've made our bed now. It's what we move onto that matters and much of this is possibly out of our hands. Some will say we have to make the best of a bad job. Hard, soft, rejoin, all possibilities some will argue but it is what it is!

Rejoin?, I was a remainer MSF, but if it was another vote I’d vote stay-no way would I choose to go thru another 4years of that lunacy. We’re out, we stay out(for me)πŸ‘πŸ»

Not suggesting anything, just illustrating the position as seen by the population. It's what the future will look like that's important and that is yet to be decided. Who knows? Just face forward and keep loking that way!πŸ˜‹

Like it or not we are now a "third" country to the EU as they are to us and as we are to the vast majority of all other countries and they are to us. That is to say we are independent - again. I'm long since retired. I've done my bit for good or not so good undecided. Now I will still do the things I want and go where I will (subject of course to CV19 restrictions). As far as running the country that is up to others and I'm content to let them get on with it. However, I reserve my very British right to whinge, whine, complain, moan, groan, protest, etc, etc, about anyone, anything or everything laughing.

It has been more than a year since someone has posted on this thread.
We are new to the "Club Together" link.

Please can anyone answer/comment on the following:
1) Has anyone successfully applied for and got a >90 day visa from any Schgengen country? If so how did you do it?
2) Has anyone tried applying for an extension to the 90 days whilst travelling in the Schengen area?

Visas to stay more than 90 days are not issued by the EU for the entire Schengen area - they are issued by individual countries and for individual  reasons and with individual price tags.  You apply to individual consulates in London.

So we know a university languages student who had a six months student visa for the time she was in Portugal, and currently has another student visa for her current studies in Spain. She would like to work evenings in a bar but the terms of her visa say she is not to.

Equally we know a couple who have a twelve month long stay visa for France as a preliminary to buying a house there and applying for residency.

I don’t know of any tourists who have applied, but choose your country and e mail their consulate and see what they say

Thank you for your feedback.

I did apply to the French consulate for a long stay visa.  They process applications through a third party.  Their earliest appointment was 20th June.  Phoning them was a waste of time.  The call back promised was not received, on two occasions.  They certainly don't make it easy.
