We have been coming to Europe with our caravan for a few years now. Admittedly, we usually come earlier in the year than this but we delayed our plans because we didn't know what the brexit ****shower was going to bring.

We are members of ACSI and always use their sites, whether Municipal or not. We have never booked and never had a problem getting in. We arrived in the famous Val de Vesle site yesterday about 2:30. The lovely lady who runs the place said that she had only one pitch left. Today she had a "Complete" sign up outside the office when we left late morning for our trip into Reims.

I have read on this forum many times that there is no need to book outside of July and August but maybe times are changing.

On a similar note, we met an English couple here yesterday who asked if we had met many British people on our three and a half weeks of travel. I told them that we had only seen three couples which was one more than they had seen over the same period, including us. The Club's sites must be pretty full or people are staying at home.

Not too far from you, BB, you could spend a day touring the Wiltshire towns/villages of Corsham, Bradford on Avon, Lacock, Castle Combe and Biddestone and be equally impressed with their cleanliness and floral displays!

been all over the adjacent counties, thanks....we look for somewhere new to walk or cycle each week we are away.

happen to be doing Oxford and Henley this time.....my blazer, hat and passes are in the wardrobe

What a muddled thread this has become! First an OP about needing to book because a camp site in France was full, then a mention that not many Brits are to be seen and later a rant about the UK and not wanting to go home as it's awful in the UK!

Then posts about the state of the UK, the litter, the rottenness of it all.

Strange really as none of us, (unless we're going away to do scientific studies of poverty and deprivation) head for the slums of France and other European countries, likewise in the UK too. We head for the "nice" spots and say how lovely it is and how it all seems so much better when we're there, ignoring the downsides of all countries where there certainly are areas we'd not like to stay in for long and where people struggle with their daily lives.

Holidays give us a break, a change of scenery, somewhere to relax and forget things, a shift from reality in many cases.

And yes some of us stay nearer to home experiencing the same sense of freedom and pleasure but we're all doing the same thing. We're all just having a holiday.

Boy am I glad of these "rose tinted glasses" if hadn't been for them I would not have enjoyed this day out in the sun or a swim in the pool one bit. Just need to keep wearing them until we have cooked and eaten our evening meal outside too.

You keep them on, David. They're probably going to match your complexion when you get home if the forecast for the next few days over there is anything to go by!
