Cirencester Park access road

We were out walking near Cirencester today so thought we'd divert to wander past the club site to see how things looked.

Well, not sure if this is good news or bad, but the access road has been diverted..

So - good news - for anyone with a pothole aversion - it's been resurfaced and the tarmac is now billiard table smooth (apart from the inevitable speed humps!)

Not such good news - instead of a long straight road with plenty of wide stretches to allow for units to pass it is now very narrow and winding, with large boulders each side at the entrance and just a couple of small lay bys for passing, so heaven help you if you meet another unit coming in or out.

I can't see any practical alternative to the "off by 12 and no arrivals before 1" arrangement. We'll just have to wait and see - well, not us obviously! wink

I don’t think anyone's lined the lanes to Down Thomas with boulders, have they?

I was just curious as to how bad it is boulders or no boulders. The lanes to Plymouth Sound just have high bankings which can do just as much if not more damage.

Have you seen the video on page 6?

I dare say if you clipped a rock though, the rock would have come off worse. It wouldn't take much of a contact with the back end of a caravan or MH to do £1000 worth of damage.

Yes and if I am Honest in the 1970’s I used to drive a 32 ton artic down worse roads and tracks than this.

I’m guessing the artic was built of stronger stuff than an LV and that it wasn’t your problem to sort out if it sustained damage.

And the bad news, Dave,  is that you can't even buy one of your beloved pasties at the end of this lane!  wink

It would have been classed as bad driving if we hit the rock with our wheels and moved it..

As you are from Notts you might remember the days when they had collieries. We used to pick coal up at those collieries and have to reverse under hoppers above rail track when you reached the steel stanchions holding  the hoppers you had to pull the rear view mirrors in because the gap was that tight. If you hit the stanchions they would make a mess of your wagon, so we learnt to be carefull.

If you damaged the wagon it was your problem. The boss would sack you.

Things are starting to happen. Not only has there been ‘marking out’ but also some excavations!

Some of the lay-bys are being extended, with corners being lopped off to make access to them easier. The blind bend is being made gentler, but will still be pretty blind. A lot of the rocks have been pushed about 6 inches further from the carriageway.
