lay by stops

Hi everyone

newby question ... can anyone give advice on stopping in a lay by for a couple of hours with caravan in the day. is it legal or not ? want to travel early in morning to site ,but would arrive a couple of hours early for site book in so wondered if we could stop in a quiet lay by for an hour or two . would we encounter any problems ?
