Just read on a review that the Marazion site is due for closure. Does anyone know if this is correct and can CAMC sites team confirm or not? Thanks.

It never was jv. I've run that other site as well and until recently has never needed a "satellite" site. Bit '80's that I thinksurprised. Are you "privy" to the plans for here and that other site then jv?

Much later than the Eighties me thinkswink not really interested in that part of the country but  if there is new plans then it would be available if I asked ,but with remote working it can take longer than in pastwink

Back to Marazion. As Steve L said there are no booking spaces for 2022 so I presume something has changed.

Estate will have to be careful what goes onto Site. We used to use CL couple of hundred metres away, we got there one time to find a huge old mine shaft had opened up, one of farm barns had disappearedđŸ˜± Thankfully no one, human or animal hurt. The woods all around are covered in shafts. Site has a public right of way through it as well. Close season, when it’s shut up, it’s a lovely enclosed area. Apart from hook up points, you wouldn’t guess what it was used for if you enter via old slate stile, or gate at the bottom. Such a lovely location.

I think if recent experience is anything to go by we must expect more leasehold sites to disappear. When the original leases were signed years ago I expect the owners had little interest in what the land could be used for beyond being grateful for the lease income. Now of course they see high value investment and return on providing static accommodation so they are considering whether it is worth continuing with leases that don't give much of a return. Alternatively having a low value lease on land they may well wish to sell could be another reason?

I appreciate that Carnon Downs camping is not a like for like replacement but it is in the South West and I am sure the Club are looking at their overall portfolio of sites and buying where it is possible so they  are less dependent on leases?

You could well be right about the leasehold sites.  in quite a few places they are on land that is worth far more for other uses than a caravan site and some do not have many years left on the leases

I cannot see that the land of the Marizion site ix good for anything other than a campsite. Perhaps the lease is being hiked to make it much less viable to run?

You’re right there, PD, but the question might well be who runs the site?

 Evening

Winter of 17, two shafts opened up on the 3ways site in the February I think. It was very interesting to see how it was repaired as the holes were breathing shafts from an uncharted mine. Only just finished before the site opened. There are photos on site in the old phone box.

I’ve seen themđŸ‘đŸ».

It’s a problem throughout Cornwall due to a lot of the mine workings being uncharted. It’s the reason there are so many park home sites in the county as the houses only need concrete rafts rather then proper foundations. A shaft opened up under a home here and the structure was supported on beams while the shaft was capped.

A few years since we have stayed JK, but I will have a look in September. I know it’s a real problem, a few dogs from Site have been rescued down the years after walking in woods over road, thankfully all ok. There’s a nice Site up the road going back towards St Erth I think, seem to recall it’s one loved by Divers as they provided bottle top ups. Could be a nice location for Yurts I suppose, lightweight, not much in way of foundations needed.

Does anyone know when the club last opened a new non facility site? Serious question as they seem to have all but given up on them.
