Queueing at Chatsworth

Arriving at Chatsworth yesterday at 1305 we joined the back of the usual queue to check in. The Warden came along to say hello as normally happens... did we have a good journey? Where have we come from? etc etc. All very friendly. He went on to tell us it makes a change not to have abuse hurled at him for being made to queue and that he fortunately has been blessed with a thick skin so he's happy to man the radio along the lane, on busy days.

More than half of the arrivials on any given day give him much grief for not being allowed to head straight for the courtyard. Obviously not regular contributors on this forum, this wouldn't happen would it? However, it seems there are some Caravan Club members who do need to get a grip eh?

Merry Christmas, chill ;-)

I usually plan my journey to arrive at the next site mid to late afternoon. I obviously leave my previous site before 12.00 noon as I would not like to disadvantage those who are arriving after the "No arrivals before" time.  After all, I know I will have a pitch to go to as I have phoned the site and booked one during the morning before leaving.

So that allows me to have a leisurely drive to site, being able to stop off at places of interest en-route.

No problems no hassle we are on holiday.  Relaxed and chilled out.

Cheers..................K

Much easier to do now that you've a M/H, Kennine, but did you do the same with a van on-tow, I wonder?

Isn't it grand to see Chestnuts at this time of year (including this OLD variety of one).

I think it's marvellous that the CT members have managed to combine 2 old chestnuts into one this time, by discussing arrival/departure times and UK v. Continental touring.

I daresay this thread will reappear on numerous occasions throughout the year, well before the chestnuts come into season,

Pity the IT department are otherwise engaged and haven't the time to treat this thread in the same manner as an Advertisement for Kitchen Installations.

Better than tele though.laughing

Ha ha, yes

Quite how highlighting the plight of wardens being greeted by grumpy caravanners in a queue has evolved into this debate is somewhat bewildering and yet amusing at the same time.

Still, everyone knows best, let the greater good continue to challenge the rules the CC have in place.

K I wish I knew where all this parking for 12 metre  plus outfits, certainly not many around here.

Even if they might have room to park, a lot of the National Trust and English Heritage places we might like to stop and see, are down narrow unsuitable for towing roads.☹️️

in answer to the 'old chestnuts' point.....

....customers might feel frustrated at not being allowed on site on arrival even though there are plenty of pitches free, and therefore are sometimes a little terse with wardens after a long drive.

some site (in the UK and abroad) arent as rigid in their arrival times and would allow arrivals to take spare pitches.

none of this has anything to do with touring being better here or there, merely that some places have more relaxed attitudes which in turn, leads to less customer frustration and (possible) aggrivation as alluded to in the OP.

IMHO, no excuse for being rude to wardens.

IMHO, no excuse for CC not to review the arrival 'rules' at certain easier access sites at less busy times....

I agree that the Club should be more flexible on accessing sites where access is easy.  However, this thread was about Chatsworth where access isn't easy as it is at the end of a narrow lane with few passing places with a narrow hump back bridge immediately before you get into the Courtyard.

We go to this site often and the wardens do a great job in getting outfits in with the minimum of delay although, I've noticed, they can be a bit "officious". They ask that the driver stays with the vehicle (assuming you're not solo) and the passenger checks in to speed the process up.  They can only squeeze three outfits into the courtyard hence the queue down the lane.  We always aim to get there between 1pm and 1.15pm.  We have it timed to perfection in leaving home at 11.50am, to the storage yard to hook up then just two roads all the way.  If there's no traffic in Chesterfield we can be there at 1pm otherwise it may be a few minutes later and yet we've never got in without having to queue.  The last time we went in mid November we joined the queue at 1.10 and there were 11 units in front of us.  Some of them must have been there before 1pm.
