Why why don't members stick to the speed limit on site

I'm Sat here watching cars go past doing more than 5mph please slow down and no I don't have young children

Having not used commercial sites in the UK, I just wonder how do they manage to control this perceived problem that seems to blight each and every CC site (if this thread is anything to go by) do commercial sites not have children playing on the roads with bikes, rollerskates, scooters etc. while in France/Spain we saw a number of them playing on all of these and  hover boards and segways, no one seemed to have any issues with that.

TG, We had loads of kids at Sandy Balls over the weekend, but (as cyber mentioned earlier) the site has loads of sleeping policemen and most vanner are respectful of the 5mph limit, meaning that the little darlings dont cause much bother to these drivers....

fast drivers plus loads of kids might have been a bit more hairy....

so, as the thread suggests.....slooooooow is goooooooodHappy

ps, today (tuesday) at Lytton Lawn hardly a child on site, as one would hope on a school dayWink

We prefer to walk the site first to see where we would like to pitch, however quite a few of the CC sites want you to drive around while trying to decide, surely this just causes more vehicles going round and round. Sometimes I walk in front of the van pointing out possible pitches while OH drives, so I know we are not guilty of speedingWink

Can I explain the problem with leaving your outfit at the reception. This Friday we have 88 arrivals, can you imagine the uproar if we let arrivals walk off and find a pitch? But well done for helping us to maintain the speed limit. It is appreciated and when I see someone driving slowly I always thank them....

Mark, surely part of the problem is that a fixed arrival time will ensure that a glut of arrivals occurs exactly at 12.00 even when the site may be partly empty. A less rigid time would help arrivals to arrive in dribs and drabs

Terry, you are quite right but no matter what arrival time you have, you will get early arrivals. I don't know what the answer is to be honest...

Let them in, it works elsewhere and if there is nowhere for them to pitch they will have to wait.

David, where would they wait and would they also block roads and the largest risk we have to be aware of is traffic v people....

two answers to this....

one, we have seen 'all day arrivals' work extremely well on even the most popular sites in France....the first departures are away pretty smartish, this means there is always a pitch for the first early bird arrival.....it just flows, one out, one in....

however, if the club also wants to keep approach roads clear, this will not work.....though for a one in, one out scenario it is rarely an issue.

two) give everyone an appointment (arrival) time like at the doctors.....this could be in 30 min slots, starting from, say 9:30 when we know eary leavers will have gone.....

it really isnt the almighty drama folk make it out to be....

however, having 88 arrivals due (most wishing to make the best of the day by getting there close to midday) cant be the way to tackle this issue....

what then, 40 odd vehicle 'speeding' round the site all looking for the elusive 'best pitch'?

Chaos......Sad

first thank you for coming on and explaining from a wardens point of view.

Others have already come back with how all day arrivals work elsewhere so no point in repeating that.

88 arrivals is a lot to have to deal with in one day, there are some sites that have adopted a policy of allocating a pitch on arrival with the words "if you don't like you can pick another one" of course that wouldn't suit many on CT.

However how to stop speeding is the main issue here, I like the suggestion of 1st gear on site rule myself.Smile
