It was with sadness that I read of the death of Betty at the age of 93.  She was probably the best speaker of the house in my lifetime - RIP

They certainly did, she wouldn’t have stood for some of today’s nonsense. She had some right old characters to deal with at times.  A grand old age as well.

Sad news indeed - she came from an era of straight talking, what a contrast to today's numpties. Had to smile at the clip on the lunchtime news where, from the speaker'system hair,  she told MP's they needed "to grow up" - didn't really work, did it?

RIP Betty Boothroyd.

She had a presence and a command of the situation that was very memorable, that voice, it was so distinctive. ⚘️

Um ... don't think there's any such thing as the "speaker'system hair"! That should,  of course read "speaker's chair"! embarassed

Not too sure about that, young Bakers2 undecided  Betty Boothroyd was the first Speaker to dispense with the Wig as part of the Speakers Attire, and she continued to do her own thing, and did it very well if I may say so.

Rest In Peace, Betty Boothroyd, Madam Speaker .

Just been reading several obituaries to this fearless and devoted lady. As one commentator said she would not stand for any modern day parliamentary ’shithousery’. Couldn’t have put it more plainly. RIP Betty.

Just read the obituary of Betty Boothroyd  in yesterdays Guardian, they always do a good obituary. She certainly had a full and varied life helped, no doubt, by her sense of humour. When you read about the political part of her life, its like history appearing before your eyes. Obviously always sad when someone dies but I think she has left her mark that won't be forgotten anytime soon.
