Sad news that Franz Beckenbauer has passed away today at the age of 78. So soon after we lost Bobby Charlton, two giants of the game who will always be remembered for their outstanding performances in "that" cup final. Two great gentlemen of the game are gone - we won't see their like again.

Franz Beckenbauer RIP.

Didn't know about this before seeing your post M.

He and Bobby Moore were coolness personified. I doubt either needed to break sweat, they were that good. Trying to think of anyone playing in their position in the last 50 years who you could say that about. The only one that comes remotely close is Alan Hansen, but not close enough.

Germany and the true footballing world will be in mourning.
