Harry Gration

Yorkshire is mourning a very, very nice man. Such a shock, he was a lovely man, actually met him one evening during an event when I was at Brodsworth. Good presenter, raised thousands doing wacky challenges with his co presenters, and rightly honoured by the Queen. A huge loss. 😢

An excellent presenter. We used to watch him regularly on look north until the East Midlands were given there own dedicated programme in 1991.

Harry, a real gentleman and true and honest presenter of the news and a rugby league fanatic! R.I.P. Mr Gration.

Harry popped over the Pennines a time or three to ensure Look North West was continuing to uphold the better Northern traditions, and he never failed to impress and give 'this side'  great standards to try to follow.

The whole Look North programme was dedicated to him this evening, with lots of former presenters on hand telling some lovely stories about him, as well as people like John Sentamu, Dickie Bird, etc…. He really was a lovely man, and local folks used to head out in droves to see him and his colleagues completing some of their wonderful charity fund raising events.

Thanks for posting that - just watched it on iPlayer - a lovely tribute to a lovely guy. Not ashamed to say this big, hard, rugby league lover had a tear or two in his eye throughout it.  (Must be living in the south's turned me a bit soft!  ) 

I don’t know how the team got through that programme as well as they did to be honest. The ladies in particular were trying hard not to end up in floods of tears. He was so very funny at times, and how he managed some of those challenges I do not know. We followed the tandem ride, and it was gruelling. Greatly missed😢

We came across Richard Whiteley’s grave quite by chance a few years ago. He is buried in the churchyard at East Witton, not far from Jervaulx Abbey. Another presenter who was a real character. He was only 61 years old when he died, so dreadfully young really. He was the very first person to be seen on Channel 4 at its launch.
