One of the THE greats. There are sportsmen that in their own field stand out beyond generations as one of the greatest, think of Ali and Bradman, and Lester was one of them.
Can't believe he won a race at the Breeders Cup less than a fortnight after getting out of jail. A misjudged man who many thought difficult but this may have mainly be down to his deafness. The horses didn't have any problems understanding him.
Does anyone remember when he was stood down for pinching a fellow jockeys whip during a race because he had dropped his?

I remember WN, he was a legend for some of the antics he employed. I also recall the horrific accident where a horse dragged him under and out of the starting gates. They were all a bit hard on the horses during his era, but he was The Great amongst many other great flat jockeys. Nijinsky was the standout horse, went on to be one of the premier stallions as well. So many winners.
