Can anyone help. I am looking for a no ties data Sim for my mobile router. I only want to put credit on it when touring. Ie. Perhaps 4 weeks in April, then nothing untill June then perhaps again in September. No contracts or direct debits just top up when required. I realise it may have to be a months data at a time.

Any help would be appreciated

There are numerous threads discussing this. HERE is one. There are others (mostly) in Parts & Accessories.

Check out the 3 Network's Internet on legs where 24gb will last 24 months. Others are available and online sellers such as Amazon will give you a good start.

I do exactly as you want to. I use Three's network with a pay as you go sim. The reason I used them was they were more generous with their roaming data allowance. You have to shop around to see what best suits your requirements, just don't get locked into a contract so you have the freedom to change provider.

We use Smarty. Reasonable price, cheaper for ordinary sim rather than data only, but we use it as a data only sim in the van router. Found it reliable but only used in uk. You do set up a contract with direct debit but only for one month at a time. Can stop it at any time, just on the web site, and then start when you want. We always stop it for several months over winter. Lots of options for amount of data.

If your phone has the facility, have you considered using "wifi hotspot".

We use the wifi hotspot on our phones as our data source when away. Between us my Wife and I have 150gb per month on O2 and Vodafone (we find these give the best coverage in UK). There are quite a few good deals on U switch, I am paying £12 per month on O2 for unlimited texts & calls and with 50Gb data.

Our joint Virgin Mobiles had 250Gb of data with no cap when in EU but now the phones have gone over to O2 we are limited to 25Gb of data each.....
