Grossly Unfair

I thought exactly the same when Paul Daniel’s wife, Debbie McGee, was a participant. She too was a trained dancer from a young age and preformed in various professional dance related employment throughout her life prior to Strictly.

Probably a minority view, I accept, but I think it's grossly unfair that this dross is inflicted on the Great British viewing public year after year! 

It was ok when it started,  tied in with Children in Need, but now it is just a money-spinner for the Beeb, and the minor celebrities involved. The predictable comments from the judges ("the best group we've ever had", "you've improved so much since last week" etc) and the staged "jollity" of fellow contestants as the "dancers" make their way up to face that awful woman with the fringe is just dire.

But the one thing it has got going for it is that it doesn't involve the dreadful Ant and Dic duo!

Most actors/TV performers, if they go in via places like RADA, Theatre Groups, etc…. have some form of dance during their training, it’s one of the basic skills as it helps with poise, timing, confidence etc…… some of course go on to specialise, others it’s only a background skill. Lots of sports people do dance in some form as well, again it helps with timing, balance etc….Louis Smith, Gymnast beat Kimberley Walsh back in 2013. Both had extensive dance related training, as did the other finalist whose name I can’t recall. 
I haven’t watched Strictly since Louis Smith won, but I think that some of it is related to just how much the contestants progress each week as well as actual skills, so you might get a complete non dancer doing well if they have a natural rhythm and come on literally in leaps and bounds😁 

Guess what, I don’t care

We are in your minority M, most stuff offered, and repeated endlessly via all sorts of channels, is pretty dire. (Solace is to be found in some of the specially commissioned stuff that occasionally comes up away from the main channels.)

It’s cheap TV making, fodder for the bored masses. Hopefully without anything controversial or discriminatory to incense anyone. 🥱 

I admire the skills of the musicians who have to play the arrangements of the selected tunes. They play the great tunes and the obscure ones with equal dexterity.

It's not reality or the outcome or winner will not affect the real world in nay way.

it's a tv show who's aims are to entertain, which for many it obviously does although I can't imagine how or why (but that's just my view and I'm sure things I watch won't be entertaining for other), and to make money for the company producing it.

I suspect it's the latter aim that means they will use any 'tactic' or personality to get people to watch it.

Good thing there's an off button and/or other choices.

+1 for not caring about the show, but annoyed that it occupies such a large slice of prime time tv.

agree, and even more annoying on a Sunday evening when they try to trick us into thinking that the results programme is live when in fact it was all shot at the Saturday night show
