Netflix sharp practice

Just a word of warning to others.  I have subscribed to Netflix for some years now but have found that over the last year or so, we have watched it less and less - mainly due to the large proportion of American films which, frankly, I find irritating.

I therefore cancelled my subscription a few weeks ago.

Last night and purely by accident (or habit), I clicked on the Netflix icon on our TV - by mistake - and in an instant a screen came up which said "Welcome back Mr xxxxxxx".  I switched away from it immediately once I had realised what I had done - but I was disgusted this morning to find that when I checked my bank account, Netflix had immediately debited £13.99 from my account,  There was no invitation to renew - or any option given - it was just done.

I have subsequently telephoned Netflix and, to be fair, they have cancelled my account (again) and refunded the money - so no harm done but I let them know that I regarded such practice as totally unacceptable.  Has anyone else fallen foul of this sharp practice?

Make a formal complaint R&R, before that delete the App. Long press on the screen(remotely) should bring up stacked options choose delete-ok. . .Sorted. AmPrime did it once to me, I Deleted User👍🏻
PS-the Govt are looking into these sharp practices right now👍🏻
PPS-BritBox may suit you better👍🏻

I'll have a go at deleting the App, Rocky - but I have a feeling that the pre-loaded Apps can't be deleted - only ones you put on yourself (it's a Panasonic).

I have a feeling you're right where Panasonic is concerned. I've not yet found a way of deleting pre-installed apps.

Ha ha Rockysmile  The Samsung was the one I intended buying until the Panasonic Rep got hold of me in Currys and showed me the difference between the Samsung and the Panasonic OLED.  Ended up paying nearly twice as much as I intended.  Still a bit too new to be looking for a replacement!

I made that mistake when Sony linked up with Google, it was on special offer. Geez it was hard work. The TV needed to go thru the whole Google warm up. It switched itself back to the Google channel hop option after I chose freeview. It froze the screen & needed-rebooting periodically🤷🏻‍♂️🙄. It now lives in the Kitchen so the GK’s can sit & have a snack whilst watching YouTube😂

I have just ditched our Now TV contract, after a couple of years. Similar reasons R&R, lack of programmes and films that appeal. They had also decided to put the price up £2 per month to use more than one device, so I didn’t think too hard about ending our contract. It was easy to do though, and will be easy to re join if we fancy it again. I watched a few things last year during lockdown, but we simply didn’t use it enough in warmer months, so will save a bit each month.
