In praise of Manchester tarts!

Sorry Mods, it's a discussion about food. Wink

I hated school meals with a vengeance, unedible gunge served up by dinner ladies whose makeup had been applied with a trowel..  However there was one dessert they served up once a week that I never forgot.  It was called Manchester Tart and as memory serves me it was a crispy base and a thick topping something akin to egg custard except it was pink.

In adult life people looked at me with a blank expression whenever I mentioned Manchester Tart, as nobody in this part of the world had ever heard of it. Then with the magic that is the Internet, I typed it into the Google searchbox to see if anyone else remembered it.  Yes they did and not only that, but there were also recipes galore for it.

Do you remember anything special food wise from your childhood that you don't really see around now?
