I know there are several wine lovers on here, so I thought it might be a good idea to have a place to discuss and share each others favourite tipple.

A wine I have recently taken to is Barefoot Merlot.  A Californian wine, full bodied wine with a blueberry and plumb flavour.  Really worth a try.  We get it from the Co-op at a little less than £7 a bottle.

I find this Aldi wine very drinkable with or without food. Animus Douro £5.49

Not the blended one!

The white Verde is also good

I buy a lot of` my wines from Aldi - like a whole lot of people do. Currently quaffing Beachfront Malbec @ £4.99 a bottle. Big and bold flavour with lots of fruit and a hint of stewed apples. I'm not a wine buff but for me that's what it tastes like. I also use Majestic now and again when I see an offer I might like. Their website is useful as you can see customer comments and repeat buys.

By the way. this is my 1st ever post on any of the discussion pages.

So hello to you all.

Welcome, C1iv3.  Good to hear from you.  At Christmas I bought a nice champagne from Aldi: Monsigny.  I have to admit, I've bought it several times since.  It does cost £12.99 a bottle, but for a champagne, that's not bad at all.. 🙂

There's a good write up about the Aldi champagne here:  https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.independent.co.uk/life-style/food-and-drink/aldi-champagne-veuve-monsigny-champagne-brut-international-wine-spirits-challenge-a8407741.html%3famp

......it appears to have gone up in price.....  🙂

I have a few bottles of the very same. A snip at the price they charge. However if you do like a quaff of the bubbly stuff can I recommend you find a bottle of Samur Brut. I bought some from Majestic at about £10 a pop. Bouvet is the brand name. We usually bring a couple of cases back from la belle France. As you know a currently forbidden country! We found the Samur Champigny reds and the bubbly Brut both to our taste but imported stocks are now getting desperately low. I fear the ferry booking for late May will have to be changed yet again!

We tried this Chapel Down rose as a treat this weekend. Not cheap but a similar price to some of the Provencal roses (sorry can't add the accents!). I think I prefer the lighter Provence ones but it has a nice twang, no sweetness, very lemony. OH liked it.

Provençal roses are also our rose of choice. They do however attract a premium, with the better ones only just sub £10 a bottle, even when on 25% off. Particularly galling when my sister is quaffing similar quality wines at 4€.☚ī¸ There is a lovely rose made in the Vaucluse, Vin de Pays, protected origin status, that we were supping in 2019, currently 17€ for a 5 litre box from the winery.

Really must visit Chapel Down again, next time we are down that way.  I think the last time we went we took the caravan to Tanners Farm.  That's been some years ago...

Has anyone had any experience of Laithwaites, Naked Wines or similar?
