With their blue and white wrist band on left sleeve of tunic to show they were "on duty"

And cape over shoulder "handy for giving naughty kids a clout with"

Ps I think City of London police still wear wrist bands (red and white)

When we moved into our new  requisitioned house in surrey after i think our house in Kensington was doodle bugged (we were in Weston Super Mare as evacuees) Dad was a Police man based at Gloucester Road police station 

  I digress  

I remember milk was from one of the churns that the milkman had in his horsedrawn van and the baker came to the door with a big basket with bread one side and buns and cakes the other side ,i think we needed ration coupons for it all?
