As soon as I hear anybody claiming to be from BT, or telling me that I have a problem with my internet, whether from BT or not, it's goodbye.  But it can't be emphasised enough, lots of people fall victim to these despicable people.  If they call me at a bad time, I'll have a real go at them, and tell them just what I think of them, but of course it's water off a duck's back with these sorts of people.

Best thing is to get a phone with call guardian, that rejects any calls not in our recognised calls list and sends them straight to answer phone. If it’s important and they really need to get in touch they leave a message. They almost never do. For the mobile if it doesn’t come up with a name it doesn’t get answered and again goes to voicemail. Had a few CC sites ring, that of course just came up as numbers. They left messages either with information or asking us to get back to them. If you can avoid talking to these scammers there is much less chance of getting drawn in.
Texts are more difficult to avoid. So far this week BT have not been able to take my broad band payment and are going to cut me off and I have a parcel which the post office will deliver if I pay a fee.😡

A call guardian won't prevent your bank contact number being misappropriated by fraudsters. The banks warn about this. Never believe anything about your bank account without doing a totally separate check on another device to a suitable number. It's important that you don't rely on the number calling as fact, check it out separately in the case of banks etc.

Of course it won’t brue. It. Just means you never get to talk to said fraudsters. At worse I suppose they could leave a message, but so far in several years of having it none have. Just out of interest I occasionally Google the numbers that have rung and then cut off when diverted to answer phone. Quite often they come up as dangerous, scam etc. Or perhaps just annoying, trying to sell insurance. The main thing is you never get to talk to them, so there is no way they can talk you into parting with any sensitive information.

I was sorry to read Pete had nearly been caught, so it's always a good warning to others. Phone crime is ultra sophisticated.

Keep the Bank's Fraud Office number on your phone so you can always call them if anything is suspicious.

Do not use any landline as they can still hold it 'open' for a period of time - maybe 1 minute? (but I am not sure how long.)
