Caravan not at fault

Seeing a television documentary about road rage got me thinking about the fact that some drivers think that caravan owners are the cause of so many traffic tailbacks. Yes we are limited to 60mph, we have to take corners wide and slow to maintain reasonable control and true some owners struggle to maintain speed going up hills, but overall we have good road manners and maintain good pace.

I do however have issues with some cyclists, they have every right to be on the road, many use cycle paths when provided and some wear bright clothing, especially useful on dull days. My issue is with these ever-increasing racing cyclists, often seen taking part in road trials.

Overtaking the average cyclist you judge if you can pass them with your long vehicle and if not you slow to their speed until a gap becomes available. Obviously the overtaking distance is an equation between your speed and the cyclist’s speed, therefore a much greater distance is required to overtake faster moving cyclists. A caravan owner and lorry drivers for that matter have to wait for a much larger gap in traffic to pass safely yet strangely traffic chaos is always blamed on caravan owners and not that single cyclist, who has every right to be there!

TT racing and rally driving on public roads requires them to be closed for public use for a time, why to cyclists have to use busy roads?
