Some good news. It seems one of the trial vaccines offers 90% protection against the virus. The developers have applied for an emergency approval to use the vaccine by the end of the month. UK has an order in place for 30m doses.

I would say the main reason is we need them at work, not at home sick or self isolating.

Why? Can you explain the medical need/reason?

Yes one of my daughters is a frontline nurse currently sticking a needle into some ones arm a hundred or so times per day, yes she does have some PPE but only the basic kind, so any further protection she can get e.g. the vaccine is a bonus laughing

p.s. she has already had the vaccine laughing

Yes, she is at high risk of getting a large load.  That I fully understand and support.  Very pleased to read that she has already had the vaccine.

Then please explain how giving them the vaccine will help.

I would have though that obvious.🤔 They will be less likely to become infected.

Disappointing to see the subject of Covid vaccination becoming a battleground for those don't seem to understand or value the fact that most public servants have more face to face contact with ....er....the public and that that should be a consideration  in the decision as to who gets priority. frown

That is not the case.  The vaccine only reduces the chance of an infected person becoming very ill and possibly dying.

It does NOT:

  • Prevent infection.
  • Prevent an infected person spreading/shedding the virus.
  • Prevent the need to isolate if you catch it.

The experts have said this a zillion times and it is clearly not being understood.  One of the reasons they are afraid that inoculated people will think it is all over and stop being careful.

At present every public servant in a lower tier group that has an inoculation ahead of the queue will be depriving a person in more need of that treatment.  Is that fair and reasonable?

They are dealing with anti maskers, anti lockdown, illegal parties, the public and the police are needed.

Around 20% are off sick or self isolating as with many other frontlines

Many, like myself (68) have practised limiting the risks and can do so for longer. Front line bobbies have occasionally to get physical. I don't.

Which public servants "in a lower tier group" are having an inoculation "ahead of the queue" at present? undecided

Having the jab will not prevent them getting the virus nor will it prevent them having to self isolate if they do.
