Just a heads up for anyone contemplating fitting any new lighting;

Quote from the Telegraph:
Halogen light bulbs to be banned in UK homes as Britain follows EU's example. Fluorescent strip lights like those used in offices will also be banned from sale from 2023 under new legislation.

Cheers, Nevers. It’s difficult to get halogen bulbs already but, luckily, I got a pack of spotlights from the wholesaler this morning.

To change our kitchen lights to LED will mean replacing each transformer so I’ve postponed that task for a while.

That’s fortuitous Nevs👍🏻🙂, I contacted a Lekky to fit a strip light in one half of my kitchen t’other half had one(fluorescent) he suggested the new LED strip lights due to t’others being phased out(his words) We replaced the old & fitted both new. Geez those LED lights are bright😱. I’m thinking we would’ve got away with smaller ones it’s so very very bright😬

We’ve gone almost 100% LED, for green reasons. Flush fitting ceiling lights have traditionally been either 240v or, commonly, 12v. LED bulbs can be obtained in either voltage - but, oh the price! An eBay search should provide some good savings, commonly from China, with a delay.

A significant issue can be that the LEDs may be excessively bright, so a dimmer could be needed. But you do need to buy dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer which uses trailing edge wave technology. More expense I’m afraid.

Given that China manufactures much of our mainstream hardware, I’m happy to buy on line from there.

My one area of discomfort with LED lights is where they create a harsh light from over-mirror strips. Fluorescent tubes are kinder, so I need to stock up on spares.

I've tried them all in over mirror lighting ..... afraid nothing has improved what I'm looking at frown

We are 100% LED in the house with two rooms dimmable, the caravan also LED.

Same here all LED  just odd lights ie. mircowave  and built in cooker OH has some older lights in his shed  and caravan all LED, when we changed the house lights we gave a friend all our halogen bulbs as some were new, as he said LED a bit expensive well he has now got a few spare halogen ones.

I read recently although I can't remember that in September this year that Halogen blub sales will be discouraged...

More than discouraged……retailers banned from selling them from tomorrow. Got rid of mine a long time ago, I’m not sure many of us will miss them?

Alternatively, you might consider looking into doing away completely with the transformers, by using 240v LED's as I have done and save yourself a bundle in electric costs.
