Hi all

hope someone can help me, I’m looking for a new tow car that is under 10k, I want a suv, I have got a swift 6TD exclusive 2020 model, I think the weight is around 1400kg fully ladened. I am wanting something that isn’t bad on juice either. Currently have an antara but want to change it for something newer with less miles on, however every car i look at doesn’t seem to be heavy enough? Thanks

I was a humorous reply .... obviously wasted. 😏

The X3 wouldn't really be heavy enough & the Ford has no indoor luggage space .... I wouldn't have suggested them either! 🙄

Is that another joke ?

I tow a twin axle 6 berth bailey all over Europe  with the BMW and its more stable than the Ranger.  The 85% is only a guide from the club and has no relevance in law

Kerbweight 1820 kg
Towball Limit 100 kg
Maximum Towing Limit 2500 kg

Also the Ranger has a Truckman box on the back with masses of luggage space.

Have you considered doing stand up surprised

Who mentioned 85%? Must've been you, as it definitely wasn't me.

Kerbweight of the X3 isn't much different from the Omega I had & I wouldn't have towed your caravan down the street, let alone Europe. If we're ***k measuring, my ML has a kerbweight of 2200kg & can tow 3500kg .... but I wouldn't tow 3 & half tonnes down the M6

Your box on the back is an extra .... we can all add a roof box if we wanted extra luggage space. As standard I have a boot/luggage space to put stuff in. IMHO .... pick-ups are for the building site ... cart springs go well with them.

I would say towing a caravan that is heavier than the towing vehicle is not a sensible thing to do, the tail will have no problem wagging the dog regardless of atc and stabilaser.

My caravan isn't heavier than my car. ( tail wagging the dog ) another overused phrase on this forum. Who is the dog you or your pal MM

I could get a ML350 for less than i paid for my Truckman box. If i ever fall on hard times i will pop down the scrappy and have  a look at one. They sound like amazing tow cars. My Ranger is my work vehicle and also doubles up as a leisure vehicle and its great at both. you could probably trade your ML in and find a rusty old high mileage pick up as an upgrade

Anyone want to borrow a high wall for this contest?  🧱😁😄

Don't need one .... something with cart springs will suffice 😏
