Recommendation for new washing machine

Got back from our caravan trip and put the Siemens washer on but no lights on control panel, think it could be the Motherboard. Probably too expensive to repair so search for a new washing machine, any recommendations out there especially with extended guarantees.

We find our local independent shop often has appliances with extended warranties and they price match the big boys.

There are only 2 or 3 manufacturers, despite the multitude of brand names, so it doesn’t seem to matter much what you choose.

In the last 37 years we have had three washing machines, a Miele and two Bosch, the current Bosch in still going and I am pretty sure is in excess of 10 years old. If it needed replacement it would certainly be another Bosch. Miele appliances are really excellent but they do come at a price. I would have a look at the JL website, I think they offer a slightly longer warranty on large appliances.

We also have a Bosch and have had one for some time now.

Probably the hardest working "member" of the family. We've had to have the seal replaced but apart from that it's been trustworthy.

Can't help with warranty but you can always buy one. Sales person will have details, usually Domestic and General.

We had to replace our ageing machine a couple of years back. Went for a Bosch from AO.com - excellent service, delivered on time almost to the minute, installed and took the old machine away for a small charge (£20 from memory). And they were doing a £100 cashback offer which in effect paid for an extended 5 year warranty.

Just a month ago we also had to replace the dishwasher, again from AO.com and again delivered exactly on time, though we got a local guy to do the installation.

The current machine is a Bosch, had it just over a year and we are very happy with it. I think there was an  extension to two years from John Lewis but we extended it to 5. Very efficient, I had disconnected the old one and they carried that out before carrying in the new one that they had unpacked in the van in, so no packaging. There was a charge for disposal of the old one, but there is no way we would have been able to get it to the local recycling centre. All our previous machines were hotpoints, the last one lasting about 10 years, with the electronic control board replaced under warranty and a few items by myself once that expired. However, when it started sounding like a jumbo jet taking off it had to go. We were not impressed with the quality of current Hotponts, hence the Bosch.  My mum had one that she used most days for 15 years and the only thing replaced was the door seal. Hope ours lasts as long.🤞

Another vote for Bosch, ours must be getting on a bit now too.

We have been married just over 51 years, started with a Philips top loader, then an Electrolux, followed by a  Blomberg, and now the Bosch, so they all lasted well.

We bought our son a Bosch back in 1998 when he got married, and they only had to replace it last year, so that was 22 years, 14 of them with 2  children.

These days we usually buy our white goods from JL as they often have good offers, plus our daughter gets an extra 4% discount by buying JL gift vouchers  through her employer.

Just bought a new Bosch freezer from JL as they were the only ones who would take it to an upstairs room.  Plus there was free recycling of the old one on offer.

We did exactly the same but went for a Samsung washing machine and a Beko dishwasher both were Which best buys at the time, only got the Beko last week but very pleased with it.

Samsung was not spinning correctly, have a contract with Domestic and General, this is who AO.com use, guy came said he thought it was motherboard ordered a new one, came back 2 days later and decided it was the pully not the motherboard, fitted new pully and gave me new motherboard showed me how to fit it and left, so now have spare motherboard for washing machine, result laughing

found AO.com to be very efficient for £50 they take away old machine and install new one, washer was easy as that is in utility area in garage and i fitted this myself so just £25 to recycle old machine, dish washer was a pain as pipes have to be fed through to sink area which meant taking off the kick board etc., worth the £50 install and recycle old machine.

I just find it amazing that when these appliances go bust, it is often cheaper to buy new than pay for a guy on £50 per hour + parts to repair, we pay £7 per month to Domestic & General for maints for washing machine which is ok, probably had 4 years of maints in the new motherboard, engineer left with me.

I have been out looking, so far so good 🤞 existing LG machine. Our local guy, part of euro?, group to get better deals useless. So went to JL. Plenty of help and advise decided on a JL one, haven't got the details to hand - not all washing machines are the same size! Silly me for thinking that! JL made by leading company, an extra year free warranty. Delivery and removal, £20. Hoping not to need it until we move house 🤞

AEG from local retailer has given us 8 years of reliable service so far ditto tumble dryer. There are more than 2 or 3 manufacturers so not all the same.
