Looking for travel insurance for pre existing medical conditions. I have been searching the Internet for travel insurance for a trip to Gran Canaria and it is a nightmare getting affordable insurance. Can anybody recommend and insurance company who has affordable insurance and good reviews for claims.

I have used SAGA for a number of years and found their annual policy to be at a lower cost than that of my bank.

I have not had to make a claim so cannot comment on their effectiveness.

They will ask for medical history etc.,before quoting to you.

I have just renewed my yearly insurance and found having declared all the conditions that Sainbury's was very slightly cheaper than SAGA.

Having once claimed with Sainburys while away for a doctor's visit for my daughter and found the helpline number and procedure very good we went with them again. Also double nectar points on shopping.

i suppose the price will depend on the pre-existing conditions you have and therefore the risk.

Recently OH and I have looked at travel insurance, to  go out of the UK   ,but when admitting  our medical conditions ,  ,it cost more than the holiday,,    hence we now do all "staycations"with our caravan surprised

For single trip (non motorhome) holidays we have used Age Concern in the past. Pre existing medical conditions is a bit of a loaded phrase and can mean a number of things with insurance companies acting differently depending on the condition. For example if you have Type 2 diabetes there will be a difference between taking tablets to control the condition and taking insulin. Best really to shop around as no doubt you will get different insurance companies reacting differently to the same conditions.

Charlie, the MoneySavingExpert website which Martin Lewis set up has useful suggestions of companies to approach, though I found spending an hour or two with the well known comparison sites such as Compare the Market, etc etc eventually produced some answers.

It's almost impossible to answer you as I know nothing about your conditions and/or your age, which could have just as big a bearing on the cost or availability of travel insurance.

We have found that the insurance provided by through our bank account to be effective and well priced. I have a serious kidney disease and associated problems but the loading that they put on is fair bearing in mind that once applied it covers me for the full year and is Worldwide, not just for caravan holidays either.

Good luck whichever way you go.

Although I have not used it I'm told that Staysure is quite good.

We used Staysure for our recent trip to South Africa. Bought it on line and when you declare your previous existing conditions you'll get an instant decision. Very reasonable premiums so we will use them again. Fortunately so far we haven't had to make a claim so can't comment on that.

Not sure if it has changed but when my father in law wanted cover in his 80's with a heart condition, he joined the CMC even though he didn't have a caravan as it was far cheaper.
