I know one swallow does not a summer make but, from yesterday's qualifying, it appears that it could all be a whole lot closer this year. Sad to see that Williams are still languishing as Tail End Charlie.

The car might be good, courtesy to a large extent of Adrian Newey. However, there was an identical one 22 seconds behind, closely followed by the Ferrari. Max does seem to be able to wring more than others out of his vehicle.

I could be dreaming but I seem to recall a year when the first ten races were won by ten different drivers, which is pretty rare but it was more exciting I would agree. It just seems that in the past 10 or so years the regulation changes seem to benefit one team which is a bit odd as they all get an opportunity to work within those changes. What I don't recall happening is that the same team has never benefitted  from two changes of regulation? On that basis it would be unusual for Red Bull dominate now and after 2026, especially with a new (to them) engine supplier?

Hiya David.

I don’t pay much close attention to the regulation changes so can’t really comment. I would be much more enthused if races were more competitive. It can’t be good for the sport if each race just turns into a procession with the usual suspects taking the honours. No, I don’t know what the answer is.

I don’t doubt that MV is a class act, and I’m not at all knocking him, and I’m sure he likes to win, quite rightly. But surely, even he would like more competition? I usually follow the race for a few laps, but once he builds up a lead, I lose interest.

Freddy

I think our interest has waned a bit over the years. When we went abroad I used to take a satellite dish so we could always watch the Grand Prix. We now record the Channel Four highlights mainly because we don't have Sky but we also prefer the commentators on Channel Four. Having said that if the race is in the middle of the night we won't bother with qualifying and just watch the highlights of the race. This season is only one race old so perhaps we should reserve judgement but if Max wins every race this year one has to ask what the other teams are doing to stop that happening.

Another Red Bull one two and again by quite a margin.

Yes good to see that the off track chatter has not impacted on performance. Perez was a bit closer this time, although I suppose providing he comes second they don't really mind how much the gap is?

Good to see young Ollie Bearman have a decent first ever Grand Prix race for Ferrari as well.

Ferrari have something to smile about tonight after Carlos Sainz won the Australian Grand Prix and Charles LeClerc came second. Quite remarkable that two weeks ago Sainz was having his appendix out! Wonder what the thinking is now about Hamilton going to the team?
