Real cost of Tour de France

It's been reported on our local TV that the organisers in this area have slightly under-estimated the cost of providing all the barriers, traffic management, stewards, signs etc for the Tour route in Yorkshire.

They estimated £2.2m and the lowest tender has come in at £4.5m. Whoops!

Leeds and York councils are likely to have to stump up some extra cash - not ideal in these times of restraint and cuts to services.

I've always said that the UK have never really appreciated just what an enormouse event the T de F really is.

Just wait until people realise what effect it's going to have when they have to close hundreds of miles of roads!!
