Since 1999, red kite chicks have been distributed to re-establish colonies around the country,
In the United Kingdom, populations of red kites now occur in:
The Chilterns
Mid Wales
North Scotland (Inverness)
Central Scotland (Stirling)
Southern Scotland (Dumfries)
The Midlands
Yorkshire
Gateshead
Aberdeen
Northern Ireland (Co Down)
Having said that two were spotted in north Kent just last week, so Somerset is certainly a possibility
