How can we help support biodiversity & wildlife

Whether you’re a caravan, motorhome or trailer tent owner, the wildlife and nature that surrounds us is synonymous with our hobby and something that I personally take great pleasure from when out and about in the UK.

From some of the discussions on Club Together that I’ve seen on nature and wildlife, as well as some amazing pictures taken by members (most recent by Oneputt), I think there is a real opportunity for us on Club Together to try and help boost biodiversity and support and encourage conservation and wildlife when staying on Club Sites.

We currently have 43 Club Sites that are part of the Boosting Biodiversity Programme and many other Sites that also report back to The Club on the local wildlife that has been spotted. This includes roosting bats in oak trees, nightjars nesting in conifer hedges, fallow deer grazing, owls in flight and buzzards hunting for their prey. Not to mention the wonderful flora and plant life that flourish in and around Club Sites.

I have a couple of ideas (below) and wondered if anyone would be interested in taking part in these or had any other thoughts and suggestions. It would be great if we on Club Together could make a difference, even if it is just to try and encourage other people to get involved and interested in the nature that surrounds us.

Each month we could feature a particular species. For example one month we could feature bats. We can ask members what sites they have spotted bats, look at bat walks that are taking place across the UK (the RSPB often organise these), talk about the equipment available such as bat detectors, share and post photos and provide information on UK species of bats and their roosting habits.

Across the UK – maybe have an ongoing discussion on any rare species or plant life that have been spotted at certain Club Sites.

Let me know your thoughts, ideas and suggestions...Smile
