Raptor persecution is happening here. Someone please tell the raptors to stop doing it. We have buzzards but no skylarks.and far fewer songbirds.

Yes, once we have healed restore that balance we have so badly upset it will be down the nature to maintain the levels. A long way off yet and I suspect other aspects of ‘our’ behaviours have influenced the decline of several passerines.

Fact is that domesticated felines have a far greater impact than those buzzards, which essentially are scavengers, on our song bird populations. Corvids are an issue,  in some areas, not raptors, but again it’s our interference that causes the upset and issues. Rewilding will help restore the natural balance.

You are so right about domestic felines have a much bigger impact on especially urban birdlife and other urban wild life

The was a neigbours cat (would not do such things owners said) that desimated the frogs and newts in our pond when we were away it got chased off by our dogs when we were home

I had not seen it around recently, then one of our neighbours mentioned that it was dead ,evidently it was killed buy a dog that had got out of someone's garden

Feel for the cat and its owners but relieved that the pond wildlife hopefully will start to recover

This game keeper pleads guilty and we now have to await sentence on the 16th Feb. I suspect your prediction will be right, nellie, So sad, the will to carry out such acts and the driving force behind these atrocities need to be properly addressed for both the employer and his employee. They need to get the message which I’m sure the vast majority of our population understand. Who is protecting who?

There is a need for the courts via a good caring Govt to take it seriously. There also needs to be jail time attached to these abhorrent actions. The sooner guns are available only to the military the better.

May be in time, Rocky but in the meantime the shooting fraternity need to acknowledge the deplorable and illegal actions perpetrated  from within.  A penalty also which reflects the abhorrent cruelty inflicted needs to be administered right now!
