April  starts  the  season  of  'Osprey  hunting'    for  me .

So  off  to  RSPB  Loch  Garten,  on-line  of  course,  and  the  sites  up, just  about,  but  no  Ospreys  as  yet.

So  over  to  Scottish  Wildlife Trusts  "Loch  of  The  Lowes"  Website  and,  and    Surprised  not  one  but  two  Ospreys  &  mating  in  full  view  of  the  cameras  !  Its  not  the  aged  "Lady"  but  a  new  female  now  in  residence,  so  we'll  have  to  see  if  the  old  girl  turns  up  at  all.  Well  she  is  believed  to  be  in  the  high  twenties  now,  darn  near  Geriatric  as  far  as  Ospreys  go !  I  understand  Rutland  has  a  number  of  arrivals   so  I  must  keep  watching  Loch  Garten  for  more  tales  of  Bad Bird  Behaviour  !!

Have found another website with lots of information on the UKs Osprey population..

ukospreys.uk/index.html

It would appear that 8 pairs already have laid at least 1 egg and a couple have at least 3 each.

WN, I remember you asking about the N Wales Ospreys. All 3 observed nesting sites, Dyfi, Glaslyn and Llyn Brenig have pairs at the nests. The first 2 nests already contain eggs, 2 & 3 respectively. The male at Brenig only arrived on 5th April  so there should be an egg due any time soon if mating has been successful.

Thanks Nellie. Just seen your post.

Brian will be happy as the pair on the SWT site have laid an egg on 23 rd.April, the exact same day for the third year running!

Oh I surely am WN,  I should be out somewhere far north of the Scottish border now hunting out beautiful large birds but getting such information out of the ether is nearly as good right now,  so thank you all  winkcool

P.S. / Delayed Edit :--

Still sad tho that there is no mention of Ospreys at Loch Garten, just the statement that the Nest Camera is still down,  so I cannot even have a peep on line in hope.

I was lucky enough to see this pair of Ospreys a couple of years ago at “Roundhouse, The Dam, Loch Doon, KA6 7QE, Dalmellington”. They are back again and their progress is covered on Facebook

 See Here

I see that one of the Bassenthwaite birds (Green 5Y born 2006) was killed by a lorry by Brockholes on R.Ribble on the M6 on the 24th April. It would appear that it was taking up residence there after having previously been the breeding male at Esthwaite Water.

Yes Nellie, I used the ukospreys.uk and it was nice to see the list on the right hand side, giving the numbers where known and the arrival dates etc but I did not use Keilder at all. I will save that to, I hope, cheer me up over breakfast which will NOT be fresh caught brown trout(s) wink
