Green Laning

take the Dog Etc.  I was really thinking of the Greenlaners reputation in General.  As I said, as a 4x4 enthusiast myself, whilst I will not do it myself, I do respect the enjoyment of those that do! - until such time when they start to adversly affect others.

We have two people around here, that clearly do partake. One has a stripped down Discovery, and one a very much modified Freelander.  They clearly love their greenlaneing, but then come home and park their mud caked and dripping mud vehicles, partly on the pavement for the next 5 days until the following weekend, where the whole sorry episode is repeated. Meanwhile young mums with pushchairs and disabled people have their clothes spoilt whilst brushing past.

That does the reputation of your hobby no good at all!

The way the roads are being maintained?? all over the ountry we soon all be needing to learn how to"green lane"

I only stay on road  cause my suburban is only a 2weeldrive

I think the problem in some cases is that many folk believe the more rutted, the more potholed, the more 'damaged' the surface the more fun and creating more fun is the driving force for them. They, green lanes, were never meant for fun like this but means of transportation and communication. They should be enjoyed by folk on foot, by horse, by vehicle, where permitted!

In my youth I did motor trail biking, which sometimes included sections on green lanes, great fun. However, we spent much time before an event setting up the course and probably even more afterwards removing the 'evidence'! Unfortunately some today think they are improving the 'sport'  by creating 'damage'!

As a child I went with a friend and his parents to some Land Rover club meetings. Their caravan was towed by their Landrover to the meeting where lots of caravans pitched for the weekend. Some of the towing Land Rovers were competition vehicles, and some competition vehicles were taken there on trailers. It was certainly a lot of fun. Some of the meetings were joint efforts with The Caravan Club.
