A bit late, but I've just read the article in the April issue about kitesurfing and had to chip in with a comment. I live near Southport and moved here to be near the beach in Ainsdale where it is fantastic for kitesurfing for the other half. During 'the season' visitors have to pay to park on the beach but it's usually free after 5pm. The beach is miles long and the prevailing wind is westerly making it a very safe place to kite. For those who visit from further away, the club site at Southport is great and only a 5 minute drive from the beach. If you book your trip to kite and there's no wind, there's plenty of other things to do and places to visit nearby either by car or on our very frequent and cheap public transport.
