Sites and Steam

OOOO,  Brian  much  prefers the  Free  Range  steam  as  opposed  to  this  'tethered'  stuff,  but  he  will  tolerate  it  for  the  training  of  juvenile  Steam Engineers,  and  for  the  good  of  this  thread 

We see (if at home) the majority of "untethered" steam that comes out of Kings Cross as we live and can see less than 400yds from just at the bottom of our road Welwyn(Digswell)Viaduct on the East Coast Main Line,

But at least when "tethered"they can normally be seen up close,and at Ferry Meadows really up close if one stands by the level crossing

One has tickets to scramble all over the Flying Scotsman this coming Saturday, including the famous tender corridor, and a sit in the drivers seat!

One is going to be like a child with a new toy!

I had planned to be at Burr's for the visit of the Flying Scotsman this weekend but had to make the decision earlier in the week to cancel because we couldn't get the van out due to snow.

Will try to get to see it later in the year.

Been watching the programme about it on TV. Enjoy your day TDA.  

Sorry  JVB  we  are  at  cross  purposes  here  --  My  definition  of  'tethered'  means  'confined  to  tracks'  and  "Free  Range"  means  having  a  steering  wheel  &  being  able  to  go  "Off  Piste"  up  and  down  the  country  roads  .  Sorry  if  I've  misled  you  !!

It's back end of March JJ.......and Tornado is there at the same time, so a double whammy! I travelled back from Berwick on Tweed a couple of years ago one evening, got off at Doncaster, could hear a strange noise. When my train pulled out, there was a huge gasp from everyone, and there on the throughline, between platforms was Tornado! Puffing and steaming like a dragon. Marvellous sight in the dark, footplate crew with huge grins on their faces! Only engine and tender, nothing coupled, out for a bit of a shunt up and down!
