"Can I ask the one thing that puts me off bridge cameras is not quality but not having an optical viewfinder, are the new electronic viewfinders good"
I'm no expert, Corners, but I’ve had no issues with electronic viewfinders. The one on my old Canon was fine and the one on my compact RX100 is very sharp with the option of turning on/off info, grids and level indicator shown within the viewfinder display.

On the viewfinder front. I was determined that I needed a camera with a viewfinder but strangely in the five years I have had the Canon G16 I have hardly used it. Even in bright sunshine I seem to be able to use the screen to compose pictures without too much of a problem. Maybe where a viewfinder comes into its own is if you are using the zoom at maximum especially if taking a picture of say an animal?

Posted on 06/10/2019 13:24 by CornersteadyI wouldn't part exchange personally, I wish I had kept all my old cameras down the year. I wish I had kept my Canon AE1 and my first real SLR a Zenith E for example just as display pieces.
I visited a friend of a friend once and he had all the cameras from when I first got into photograph in the late 70s and early 80s. He had a AE1, A1, Pentex ME and MX, Olympus OM1, and a selection of lenses to match (the old FD mount from Canon) and a classic 70-200 mm Vivitar.
Happy days.

Posted on 06/10/2019 15:13 by OneputtI’m totally the opposite David I need a viewfinder unless it’s on the tripod

My problem with a viewfinder is my varifocal glasses. I find it quite difficult to use a viewfinder with them on. I know I can adjust the viewfinder to suit my vision but that means I have to take the glasses off. I suppose we all adapt to our own limitations!!! Obviously in the days of manual focus cameras we had no choice.

If there is, I’ve yet to find it, David. The trouble is that camera gear, like techie stuff, moves on so quickly that our old stuff rapidly becomes out of date.
I checked out selling my 10yr old Canon bridge and most places weren’t interested. Even on eBay I’d make so little it wouldn’t be wither the hassle. I’ll give it to the charity shop instead.

Anyone wishing to dispose of camera gear may consider an organisation for disabled photographers, such as the disabled photographers society and similar organisations, charities that pass on gear to disabled would be photographers.
Although I do cart around rather heavy Nikon DSLR kit, my old lightweight Canon with mid range zoom never sees the light of day unless the grandchildren use it. I just use the camera in my I-Phone, perfect for short range.
