What experience have members have in continuing caravanning with having to have Dialysis 3 times a week. My wife has one Kidney removed and is due to have the other one removed in March. We would like to continue to caravan ,but have no experience of dealing with this illness .So any help would be appreciated on working around this. We  are used to caravanning as we first started in 1978

Thanks for any replies

Hi Layton 1837, sorry to hear about your wife and total hats off to you both 👍 I know a few years ago (so may have changed), being on a CAMC site, arrangements were made with the site staff for boxes of dialysis solutions to be delivered just prior to the members arrival date. As long as all solutions and paraphernalia were arranged to be collected before the member left, then it was allowed.  My advice would be to contact the club for today’s clarification. Not sure if this will end up helping, but certainly hope so and I wish you both well 😊

No actual experience, but do have a close friend with CKD. I think a great deal of how you manage will be reliant upon your wife’s specific condition, and current/ongoing treatment, so obviously, her health team are your first port of call.

You might find this useful though…

Wishing you all the best, a change of scenery, well managed and as stress free as possible will be a huge boost for you. Hope you can get something sorted.

First of all best of luck and kudos for wanting t continue.

I don't need dialysis at the moment but it is going to be needed in the not too distant future so I've also been looking into how to continue touring on dialysis.

Ttda's link is a great first step. Also have a look at the following link. If your wife can cope with and been so advised by a Renal Consultant then you'll be able to manage with Peritoneal Dialysis but you will need a very safe and clean environment to be able to do this. I have heard of severe consequences, like Sepsis, if areas both in the immediate environment and on the recipient are not super clean. However you'll be able to use your own facilities. If I'm allowed to have this treatment then I will probably be choosing to continue. My OH is a cleanliness freak anyway.

We did investigate travelling abroad at one time, before Brexit, but that might be one step too far. We'll see.
