Cassette toilet additives

I was always led to believe that a cassette toilet should not be emptied into the normal household sewage system via the household toilet or whatever as the chemicals, formaldehyde possibly, killed the good bacteria at the sewage works that broke down the waste. Is that still the case as modern toilet chemicals are formaldehyde free? A lot of people seem to be using Bio Pods that you would normally use in a washing machine as an alternative to the dedicate waste tank fluid. That is obviously safe to put down domestic drains but do they do the job the purpose made chemicals do?

May be repeating earlier posts but we now only use Aldi Bio Pods  and have no complaints whatsoever even in the high temperatures we have enjoyed this year. Every time I just throw one of those capsules in instead of measuring out that awful blue stuff I thank our friend Merve for putting us on to it, just about the most useful thing I have learned from this forum.

Do you use them in both the cassette and the flush tank?  Do you dissolve the one for the flush in some water?  We couldn't just drop one into our flush water as it's almost impossible to get the top off, and the filler pipe is much too narrow.  I've suggested to OH that we try them after we had problems opening a blue bottle, leading to spillage everywhere!!

The above is very useful to a new motorhomer!

For those recommending using bio tabs in the toilet, do you also use this in the flush instead of pink fluid, or just in the waste instead of blue? Any recommendations for substitutes for pink fluid to keep the toilet clean / unclogged?

Thanks!

I use cheap fabric conditioner in the flush i.e. Lidls & Aldi.  I found that Thetford Pink left black bits in the flush water.

No Val just in the cassette, sometimes we add fabric conditioner to the flush tank but  I only do it because someone  else  thinks it smells nicewink

When its piddling down with rain it is nice to be able to empty and rinse the cassette and shove it back into the compartment without faffing about in the front locker for fluis etc. We keep a box of Lidl pods in the cupboard beneath the wash basin. Fliss will drop a pod in via the sliding flap ready for next usage.

When I was at the Coniston site in September I noticed there was a clean your cassette machine there, it even refills it with water and 'blue'.

Cost £2. I wondered how well used it was?

I'd forgotten about this thread but have just re read it. No definitive answer about whether it is ok to empty the cassette into a normal household toilet/sewage system if you are using formaldehyde free additives. Any CL owners or wardens out there with knowledge of where the chemical toilet disposal point waste goes? Does it go into the mains sewage system or a dedicated tank for disposal by other means?

If the waste goes into a septic tank then your supposed to use the green chemical additives so it doesn't affect the chemicals that's put in there every time the tank is emptied.

I'm not surprised it doesn't  damage the functioning of a septic tank. The green fluid is absolutely useless. Bio pods are much more effective.
