Has anyone been to the Christmas market in Bruges, or Ypres?

By the way I think the parking fee at Chatsworth is an absolute disgrace!!

We've been a couple of times, but not recently.  We stayed at Camping Klein Strand in Jabbeke and got the bus to Brugge.  It was a lovely market, and one of the cafe's on the centre square served wonderful French onion soup!

I checked the dates and the market in Bruges open when we're there.  Unfortunately the other market (in Ypres) is also open during the period we're there, but closed down for the night just before we arrive, is closed on the next two days that we're staying in Ypres and the next day is open after 3.00 pm - when we'll have left!

Thanks Ina - I rather think we've been in that square, and eaten French Onion soup on a previous visit.

We went to Bruges last year as an end of year short road trip. We were so lucky, it snowed heavily as we left the tunnel and Bruges was quite magical in the snow! The stalls were good , the city buildings lights were magic!! There are two markets in the city, you must visit both.

we loved itπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

It snowed last time we were in Bruges, but we were either too early or too late for the Christmas market that year.  It snowed so heavily on our way home that we almost didn't make it - when the M1 and the M14 were both snowbound - I think it was 2010.  Fortunately we diverted to the A10 and despite being the only ones on the road, going through deep snow, because there was no other traffic, we managed to get further north and out of the heaviest snow!

We’ve been to the Christmas markets in Brugge about half a dozen times, with and without snow. We have always been disappointed by the stalls, though the setting of the ice rink in the market square is quite magical.  We too love the lights but think they have been reduced in numbers over the past couple of years.  We go to Brugge often most years and winter is definitely our favourite time of year.  If you are going to visit this year Val there is an “ice-sculpture” exhibition each year in a refrigerated marquee outside the station.  The Disney themes make it a bit “samey” but worth seeing once at least.
