"Club" membership and CT

When the Caravan Club instigated this forum I think that they envisaged that it would act as a focus for members to both pass on useful information about our hobby and as a vehicle for discussing points of interest, with the added bonus of it being a way of advertising the Club to the wider caravanning population. At the start the vast majority of those that posted were club members, however over the intervening year the numbers that post on a regular basis has dramatically declined, and now many of those regulars who continue to post are no longer members of the club. Is this a reflection of the popularity of the club itself and that many past members are leaving, perhaps exacerbated by the "Club's" attitude to its members and the problems many are currently having with the new booking system.

Hi everyone,

A polite reminder to keep conversations free from arguments as we want this to be a friendly place for forum member's to communicate.

Also, we totally appreciate that posts will drift off topic from time to time and there may be some comparisons to overseas touring when relevant to the conversation however we do want to make sure this doesn't then dominate the thread. Please feel free to start new conversations in the relevant areas though and keep this discussion on topic. Many thanks. smile

As I posted earlier, I don't think there is a simple answer to Nellie's question. There are numerous reasons why folk no longer post on CT or leave CAMC. Extugger has stated several reasons from his own point of view but, for every Extugger, there will be many who think the opposite. It's something that cannot be absolutely defined.

I think that there are many reasons why people use CT and those that don't. If you are new to this hobby you will use CT as a resource to help guide you to the right outfit for you and then get answers for all the questions you have on those first few trips away. Once you have gained experience for yourself the need for CT recedes and you may not use it again unless you have a specific question on your outfit or a destination. The other main use is purely social and there are many good threads on CT that cater for that. Then if your are brave enough you can engage on the threads that soon turn into MH v carvans, EHU v non EHU, over here v over there, club sites v non club sites or commercial club v members club, which sadly ends with posters just stating their own preference then it gets personal with content being removed or threads locked. I think that may well put people off from contributing.

I think that's the nail on the head pretty much GE. The negativity whether it's warranted or not tends to take over many threads.

I have made a couple of suggestions for CT improvements to the club which I think will benefit the community and help reduce the number of closed threads and removed posts. Firstly give the moderaters the ability to provide an explanation of which guidelines have been broken resulting in the post being removed, I think that this would provide some education to posters on the type of posts that are inappropriate. Secondly, add a Members Only section which would I think help reduce some of the recent member v non-member negativity.

What other improvements would people like to see.
