Hi everyone,

Following the very popular Coronavirus Concerns discussion, I have created this discussion to continue conversation around the Coronavirus where you can discuss with each other and share updates and concerns.

However, we do request that conversations and comments about politics are not posted as this inadvertently leads to disagreements and arguments as we have seen in previous discussions where we have needed to moderate posts. Please can you keep your conversation free from politics friendly and in the spirit of the community. A reminder of the Guidelines below:

Many thanks for your understanding and all your support of Club Together.

It's all related even if it doesn't seem so Jill.

There are serious and quite understandable concerns from members who live in areas that will undoubtedly see a huge influx of relieved holidaymakers into their area, bringing not only the normal seen every year problems but potentially a brand new deadly one. Yet, and it's a big Yet there must at some stage be a point where the visitors have to return and provide an economic lifeline to those same communities.

Not everyone is dreading the return of those holidaymakers just those people who are vulnerable, which as a percentage must be in a minority of the population. Sure, the visitors are tolerated each year but without them the area would die.

It's a hard balance to achieve and I'm glad I'm not making the decisions as much as I dislike.... well I won't go there.

You're drifting off topic somewhat.

I'm not sure why, Jill (unless you specifically mean my post! wink)

The most recent comments have been about the effects the sudden influx of tourists will have on popular holiday destinations and with coronavirus still very much alive and kicking that is clearly a concern to local residents, though some have chosen to express those concerns in a rather confrontational way.

Within a 10 mile radius of where I live we have the tourist honeypots of Bath, Lacock, Castle Combe and Corsham so I'm well aware of the impact and benefit huge numbers of visitors have on the local economy.

As I said earlier it is incumbent on all visitors to every area of the country to act responsibly and have regard to the feelings of permanent residents.

How? the title is to with concerns, so surely any concern to do the virus is certainly on topic.

I understand the relevance of the concerns of residents when visitors return to tourist areas but people are discussing tourism tax and council tax for which this discussion was not intended.

Not disputing the relevance of concerns of locals when visitors begin to return to tourist areas but people are discussing council tax which, strictly speaking, is not what this thread is about.

if the tourist tax (who mentioned council tax apart from what they paid?) is to do with the virus and a concern then it is.

Jill, I must be missing the discussion on Council Tax. As far as I can see, the only mention of it is mine "Yes, we pay through the nose by way of utilities and Council Tax for the pleasure of living here..."  It was part of the tourist tax discussion which, in turn, was an element of tourists and the spread of Coronavirus.

Edit: correction, I see EuroT raised the issue of Council Tax in relation to tourist tax. Again, as part of the tourist/Corona issue 🤷🏻‍♂️. Truly, there are far wider off topic drifts on this forum than this issue and far greater breaches of the guidelines.
