EHU Curiosity

Just back from a holiday on a CL in Yorkshire. 5 Pitches, 5 EHU posts each with 2 x blue sockets on the electrical switch box enclosure. It was useful having the 2 sockets on each post because pitch 5 decided to plug into post 4 and so on up the site leaving me on pitch 2 without my own post.

Nice holiday and electrics all OK but I did notice that one of the sockets on each of the posts was mounted on a stand off where the other was flat to the enclosure, the socket on the stand off was switched with an Earth leakage circuit breaker whereas the flush socket was protected just by a 16A MCB. I have been pondering this arrangement and haven’t come up with any reason for this configuration.

Any thoughts??

I believe that the present Wiring Regs require EHUs to have RCDs on the socket outlets. It’s many years since I was on the Regs. committee and I don’t have recent editions but it seems likely that the original sockets were installed prior to a change in the Regs. When that happens it is not retrospective but would affect new sockets added after the change.
