European Breakdown Caravan Cover - WITHOUT the UK

Hi

Our caravan is 7.9m long, so to long for the standard AA european policy (max 7m) - does anyone know of a rescue service that offers european breakdown cover ONLY, not UK?

I asked the AA and they said the 7m is due to a shipping container length, there is no restriction for UK.

The RAC has no restriction on their C&C Arrival package but you have to also have the UK cover which I have with the AA at the moment.

I may have to just wait a while and change from AA to RAC for everything to get the european cover at some point unless there are other options.

Some of the insurance companies have add on breakdown insurance which usually covers larger motorhomes. My motorhome is 8m long and is covered by Comfort for both vehicle and breakdown. Previously I have used the C&CC Arrival  (RAC) policy and insured the vehicle separately.

What do you have as a towing vehicle? The legal length limit of caravan in the UK for towing with a vehicle under 3.5 tonnes is 7m excluding the drawbar but wouldn't a caravan with a 7.9m overall length exceed that?

It’s probably 7m or less without the A frame, (or they wouldn’t be able to sell them) so that’s fine and its been towed by a large Range Rover Vogue

A single trip policy for the period you are overseas will cover Europe without duplicating your existing UK cover. Many companies will do this for you - for example Eurobreakdown.

Am I missing something but does not the Clubs own Red Pennant cover you just whilst you are abroad? They used to give a small discount if you also used their Mayday UK cover. Even if a policy did cover the UK as well I do wonder how much of a difference there would be over just European cover?

They can produce and sell them but the purchaser just can't tow them on the highways.  For example A HOBBY 720 KWFU has an Overall length 9.046 mm and Body length of 7.868 mm.  Certain members of our society have them but strangely don't seem to be troubled by the law.

There's nothing to stop anyone selling a caravan which is illegal to tow by a car under 3.5 tonnes because it can still be towed by a heavier vehicle.
