When we  started caravanning we wanted to see as much of the UK as possible. We've both been abroad to various places but not with the van. My all time favourite trips are to Orkney but launching ourselves off Orkney on the six hour ferry trip to Shetland has been the best adventure so far. Getting to Unst, the most northerly part of the UK and being nearer to Norway than anywhere else was a great experience. I wanted to sit in the ruins of a Viking house and got my wish! (It was June, freezing weather and I had a bad cold...but it was worth it. smile)

Favourite place and most visited is definitely the Lakes and it was our first trip in a caravan too. We were camping in the middle of the camping area during a coldish time in August with all these caravans in a circle around the field. Each one had a warm glow coming in the windows and it seemed an altogether more comfortable experience than we were having. Hired a caravan the next week, loved it and bought our own the week after we were back. Never looked back since.

And setting foot on the Viking Longboat, even if it was a full size replica. Magic!

There’s one in Norway too, then again Orkney was inhabited over the centuries by all Scandinavians so it makes a lot of sense๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜Š

On that boat, the Skidbladner, we were closer to Bergen than Edinburgh and a lot of the houses on Shetland have a distinct look of Norway about them.

The far north does have a certain magnetic (sic) draw. Svalbard, Greenland and Iceland have been magical places. Not with the motorhome though. Scotland has a strong pull for my own wheels, particularly since the continent is a bit taboo these days.
