Maximising space in your caravan or motorhome

As we know, space can be a precious commodity when it comes to our caravans and motorhomes. So, let's share some ideas on how to make the most out of our limited spaces.

How do you efficiently organise and store your belongings?

Are there any must-have space-saving gadgets or storage solutions you swear by?

What are some creative ways you've found to maximise living areas, such as the kitchen, bedroom, or bathroom?

Have you come across any clever DIY hacks or modifications to optimise your caravan or motorhome's layout?

I'll get things started with a couple of my own suggestions:

Over-the-door organisers: These handy organisers can be hung on cabinet doors or walls, creating extra storage space for small items like toiletries, kitchen utensils, or stationery.

Vacuum-seal storage bags: These were a game changer for our trailer tent and maximising wardrobe space. Simply pack away bulky clothing and bedding, then use a vacuum or roll to remove excess air, leaving you with more room for other essentials.

What are your ideas, favourite products, and personal experiences in making the most out of your caravan or motorhome space? Let's help each other create functional and comfortable living spaces for our travels!

YT I agree with your final paragraph having been in a friends Hymer. The 2 floor system seems perfectly logical and gives him enough garage space at the rear for his motor bike etc.

Of course, as this is a storage thread, the other thing the double floor gives you is fully insulated underfloor storage...think large passenger coach (suitcase storage) but on a smaller scale.

Hi, ,

One thing i have added to our vehicle are  some aadjustable rods

50cm Spring Loaded Extendable Voile Net Curtain Tension Rod Pole Rods Rail New

Which can be found by copying and pasting in a well known auction site.

These are fitted between the bathroom cupboard and the washroom mirror frame , so we can hang towels well above the bathroom radiator.

Can also be used to stop items falling out of cupboards.

Marvellous

We always try not to take an excessive amount with us, but we do take spare consumables e.g. washing up liquid, toilet sachets - and always add another to the shopping list when we open the 'spare', so that we don't leave ourselves without.

We save weight and space by not often taking an aquaroll or wastemaster with us these days.  As we tend to use serviced pitches, we use the fresh-mini and flexi-waste pipes from Colapz   We also don't take an awning with us....  we just use a roll out canopy - it suits us.

The storeage in the Evora doesn't seem any larger than in the Valencia, in spite of it being a larger van, but we still have unused space.

One thing I have done, is to leave the 'wooden/ solid' caravan table at home.  Not only is it a bit awkward to get in and out from under the fixed double, but it is also a little heavy.  Weve replaced it with a slatted table which we can use in the caravan, or underneath the canopy.  We can also leave it outside without any worry that it will be adversely effected by the weather.

P.S. Colapz are also producing larger water containers which will fold down.  These are 20l containers, but you can link two of them together to give a 40l calacity - the same as an aquaroll.  They are still working on a 'wastemaster alternative'.  The 20l containers should be available by the end of the year.

If this is any usexto anyone, here is a link...
