Hi,

I have had a search of the site and cannot find the answers. After being confused by other forums.

My Daughter has a standard car license, passed in 2007 UK.

What is her combined car + trailer/Caravan weight please?

IF anyone knows !

Try this:

and this:

https://www.gov.uk/guidance/new-rules-for-towing-a-trailer-or-caravan-with-a-car-from-autumn-2021

What changed on 16 December 2021
If you passed your car driving test from 1 January 1997, you’re now allowed to tow trailers up to 3,500kg MAM.

Check your car’s handbook to find out its gross train weight (GTW). This is the total allowable weight of the car plus the trailer plus the load.
DVLA will update your driving licence record to show that you’re allowed to tow trailers. You do not need to contact DVLA for this to happen. It will be done automatically. You’ll get category BE added to your driving licence when you next apply to get a new driving licence.

The I go given by the club suggests 8250kg but it is unclear. Check the Advice & Training tab for Driving Licences.

The test for B+E enabling towing has been scrapped.

That refers to people who passed their test after January 1st 1997 and is now out of date.

I found this

That information is out of date. What Cornersteady has quoted is correct. The reference to 8250kg in Tinwheeler's reply doesn't apply to anyone who passed their driving test in 2007, as is the case of the OP's daughter.

Cheers, Lutz. I thought it was unlikely. I got it from the CAMC advice and training section. Either I misunderstood or they’ve got it wrong.

I believe that the 8250kg limit only applies to those who under grandfather rights also have a C1 licence because they passed their test before 1997. A Category B licence always restricts one to a 3500kg towing vehicle and such vehicles can only tow a trailer of no more than 3500kg.
