Truma printed circuit boards

I don’t think PCBs are the most reliable of items in any application. Perhaps that’s understandable when you take a close look at them.

I think PCBs are considered as consumable items so can’t be p/ex'd as they have no further value or use. A bit like tyres, really. 

Someone on here described MHs as money pits the other day. He wasn’t far wrong but we all know what we're letting ourselves in for - or we should do - when we buy.

It's to be hoped that one of the many many pcb boards in your car are not considered a consumable part or it'll hit you very hard in the wallet if one fails  ... far more than £189

For sure, and I wouldn't hope for a p/ex allowance either 😐

To be brutal about it they charge £189 because they can. A board of that size in volume will be less than £10 for them to buy. There is no reason for them to fail either, if they designed, specified the components and assembled them better they should last a lifetime. But then the second user spares revenue would suffer.

I have just encountered the same situation - except it is a Dometic fridge and the part cost £240.

The PCB went on my new motorhome, although it seemed to work for almost a year. Fortunately it was replaced under warranty. Having said that the one on the previous motorhome was fine for five years and also on previous caravans. It reminds me of a central heating boiler we had installed. The PCB went after about two years but the replacement  went on for about another 14 years!!!

After 15 years of trouble free use, the ignitor pcb on our truma gas fire/ heater failed. I hadn't switched it off completely and the ignitor continued sparking unnoticed after I had turned the gas off. Our van is continental and the ignitor runs off the 12v supply rather than an aa battery. The new pub cost us £180 !!!!

When the pcb failed on our Alde heating a few months out of warranty, it was almost £300 for a replacement.☹️ There didn't seem to be a lot to it for the money.

Thank you “ moderator” AandR were very helpful, stupidly I let Truma keep the pcb I sent them, otherwise AandR can repair them for £50. I’m going to use the boiler on electric only as we have never used the gas part. A lesson perhaps to others don’t buy new get them repaired for a quarter of the price.

The trouble is that we don't always find out until it's too late that there are alternative courses of action, that's life I suppose! The new PCB should have some sort of warranty which should safeguard you for the immediate future. I think I would suggest that you check that the gas side is in working order even if it's your intention not to use it.
