I doubt it’s anything you’re doing wrong. It’s been an ongoing issue and you will see many 'ghosts' across the forum.

Sometimes using a different device can do the trick. For example, trying it on a PC instead of a tablet.

You could also check the size of the photo you are trying to upload as it needs to be quite small pixel/mb wise. Also a good idea to clear your cache as this sometimes prevents you seeing change or changes being registered.

There is usually a warning in red print if the photo size hasn't been reduced enough but usually if that is OK as DavidK says clearing the browser history/cache works although it's not always a fast process.

The same has happened to me, I changed my name and my picture disappeared. I have tried numerous times to re apply it with no luck, it is on my profile, but when posting it’s a ghost picture. Have even tried on laptop but no joy.

It sounds as if you have uploaded successfully if you can see it in your profile. Have you tried clearing your cache? Once you have done that press F5 to refresh your screen to see if that works.

Nothing works David. I have been trying for 2 years now to upload a photo - from a desktop PC. After resizing, it uploads and shows in my profile until I log out, then it disappears into the ether. I've given up and will stay as a ghost. 

I don't want to check all this out in case I lose anything but is there a "save" tab that needs to be pressed?

There was last time I updated mine.
