First caravan - large variation in used prices!

Hi All,

We're looking to buy our first caravan in the next couple of months.  We are a family of four (children are 1 and 3 years old) plus the rather large family dog (Monty the Doberman).

We have pretty much decided that we would like a 6 berth 'van, preferably with fixed bunks at the end or to one side - we also like those with a large rear bathroom.  Stand alone shower is also a requirement.

With the above in mind I have been trawling the usual haunts - Caravan Trader, Caravan Club Classifieds, etc. and have noticed a fairly large difference in price between similar caravans.

For example, the following are 2 similar carvans (in my unexperienced eyes!) and yet the price difference is nearly £1700:

£3190 http://www.caravansforsale.co.uk/touring-caravans/lunar/lunar-lexon-fb-cs656645.aspx

£4850 http://caravans.autotrader.co.uk/used-caravans/avondale/argente/2004-avondale-argente-650-6-6-berth-bursledon-cfpa-8aa7c01f40e79f310140fd3b9eb06e57/category/touring-caravan/berth/6/sellertype/private/caravanprice/3000/4999

Can anyone tell me the 'going rate' for a caravan of this size, no older than 2004, and for a private sale?

I guess what I'm saying is do you think the £3190 cravan would be in poor condition, or is the £4850 caravan overpriced?

I know it's a vague question with endless variations (make, spec, age, location, consition, etc.) but I'd like to know if people think caravans of this age/size in the £3k - £4k bracket are worth looking at?

Many thanks in advance,

Ross
