Selling a motorhome through a broker

Perhaps this isn't what you want, because I don't know about a 'broker', or about motorhomes or even whereabouts in the country you are, but we had a very good cash offer from a local company who actually buy your caravan from you directly - Yorkshire Caravan Buyer.  He's part of what used to be Goodalls, the caravan/motorhome dealership at Huddersfield and we know him from our dealings there over the years. He'll quote you over the phone and then come over and see what you are offering and confirm the quote.  If he's at all local to you then it might be worth giving him a ring, not least to recommend someone who might be interested in your motorhome.  We didn't take his offer in the end because we sold it privately, within two days, from a classified advert on this website's Classified Section - which is free.

There is another local to us advert from Northern Caravan Buyer - who does buy motorhomes as well, but we've had no dealings with them. 

Both of these will give you a quote to actually buy from you - and you can take it from there.

Hi John, your van will have a commercial value and a good dealer will offer you a fair price, but probably a lot less than you would like to get for it.   A broker is a middle man who will operate between you and a dealer, so therefore, he needs his cut which means you get less.

Vals point about the CC Classifieds is a good idea and like Val says, free to you.

If you let people on this forum know where you are they might be able to point you in the direction of more dealers.    I live in Taunton in Somerset and we have a local MH dealer who buys from anywhere in the country.  It is Thornfalcon Motorhomes, but I am not in a position to recommended them.

you don’t say where your at.  I sold my last caravan via a dealer who was acting as a broker.  The cost was £500 and the broker advertise, valeted it, put it on there forecourt and obviously dealt with scammers, and there are a lot of them about.  The van sold in a month and best of all I made £2k more than part exchange. The people I used were Downtide just outside Cromer in Norfolk.

i used to store the van with them so knew them pretty well.

I have no experience of them but Motorhomdepot have many vans for sale on eBay daily....

might be worth looking at the sold listings to see how they do..

i don't know what rate they charge, but the vehicles are photographed at your home, and inspected there....they use their photos, text to make a good advert and they are placed across all selling platforms...

Very interesting and informative post.  It would never have occurred to me to sell via a broker, rather than instead of part ex and for what they do, £500 sounds very reasonable.  I wonder if that is around the same price as what most brokers charge?
