An appeal to Safefill users - and others!

I do not wish this thread to deteriorate into a debate about Safefill Cylinders and the whys and wherefores of various other makes. This is not a promotion of any product.  So please, if you are not a Safefill User, (unless you wish to assist your fellow campers, Motorhomers and caravanners which would be very welcome!) do not comment. This thread is about the effort by the ‘Leisure public’ who use Safefill cylinders to increase the chances of more fill points which can only be a positive move. Morrisons moved to facilitate Safefill after I suggested we all write to them and ask about filling a perfectly legal cylinder. People power does work and it can be a powerful force when applied. Can anyone who uses, or is about to purchase a Safefill, or would like to see fill points open up nearer to them or just simply wants to help their fellow caravanners-  please take 5 minutes to email the following Service Station Groups about filling Safefill cylinders now that the Red Guide has been amended to encompass them and Morrisons have allowed their filling.  You will get the details from the web.  I have only chosen 2 at the moment- more will follow. If we do this as a group, we can change minds as we did with Morrisons. The first is Penny Petroleum which is based in the north of England and has 42 sites I believe. They are on Twitter so that’s another way of contacting them and applying gentle pressure! The second and much larger concern is Euro Garages Group. Please help. Safefill are too small to get out there and visit everyone but they are doing their best I can assure you. Can you please post when you have sent your communication and  any results you receive to the thread Thank you so much . We need those fill points!

except buying and selling coffee, papers other stuff is quite cheap, safe, and easy to do, an trained person can put them there and collect the money.

Adding a LPG pump is far more difficult and costly and the returns may not justify the costs involved, perhaps £5 per week? Why install safefill (and other products are available - I can't understand why Merve keeps pushing safefill) at a great cost when coffee makes money money and could indeed be said to support the leisure industry more?

Any strangely enough I never go to a petrol station to buy papers or coffee alone, it's mainly and most times only for the petrol,

Corners....why do you keep talking about "installing safefill"?

An LPG pump can be used to fill any suitable cylinder or tank.

What Merve is campaigning for is for owners of suitably equipped and safe portable cylinders to be allowed to refill them.  The filling of portable cylinders is often associated with the illegal filling of cylinders such as Calor using various adaptors, these cylinders such as Safefill and Gaslow are specially made to be refilled safely at an LPG pump, unlike Calor cylinders.

Why Merve is campaigning only for Safefill to be allowed, I have no idea, but if  outlets accept Safefill, no doubt other makes will soon follow.

I rather imagine that Calor have lost money on Calorlites, my guess was that they were introduced as a rushed response to BP Gaslite, having seen off that threat. They have lost interest.   But if the Average Calorlite bottle is generating £25 every 12 months I don’t see much profit.   Btw Safefil seems to mainly out of stock at the moment.

Ok I assume it is not like giving out milk, I assume you do not go with your empty gas bottle and they pour it out from one container into another. The LPG will need a storage tank and the necessary pump and nozzle to fit your bottle with all the required safety procedures.

If a petrol station do not have this then it will need to be installed, this would cost money, would there be a return on that money. I can only think of one station in my known area that sells LPG. I would suppose that if others wanted to follow then some installation and costs would follow?

I don’t get it. What we have here is someone (Merve) trying to help the ‘lot’ of other Safefill users, and he’s getting a hard time?

Posted on 16/08/2018 20:25

Merve getting a hard time? No, it’s exploring and expanding our knowledge of the situation whilst examining the practicalities.

I’m sure I’m not the only one that doesn’t see it that way. I do feel that some posts are argumentative for the sake of it, something I’ve seen in many threads. It doesn’t reflect well.

I hope you're not arguing there, Freddy!

Sometimes you have to look below the surface of these things but I'm sure Merve is more than capable of fighting his corner if he feels the need.

I too think you're not the only one but that doesn't alter the fact that he's not getting a hard time.

If this Safefill is so great what has Merve got to fear? A good product will stand on it's own merits. But I still don't understand why this one product only is being pushed by him? Would it not serve the needs of LV owners better to information on all such services?

Also I'm sure that fuel stations don't sell LPG gas just the sake of LV owners but rather cars? So why hasn't this caught on more and so few outlets? Are LPG cars rising or falling in demand?

I saw what you did there 🙂

I’m just a naive nit-wit that expects places like this (forum) to have a friendly atmosphere, but too often it’s quite the opposite. I think the Deleted User posts speak for themselves.

Sadly there are one or two who can’t resist making personal comments in a less than friendly way about others. Those of us who try to remonstrate with the aggressor, or defend the person being insulted, naturally have our posts taken down along with the original offensive post.

Now you’ve caused Merve's thread to go way off topic.🤭😯
