Best Satnav

Does anyone have experience of upgrading from a Garmin Camper 660 (which is essentially the same satnav as the Avtex - only that you have to add your own POIs for CAMC and C&CC).

The 660 works but has limitations:

- I've twice recently driven my MH back S from Scotland on the M6 and round Lancaster seen the traffic information keep switching back and forth between long delays and no delays!

-It gives the wrong speed limits for a MH (which for mine are the same as a car) and treats all MHs as HGV of 3500kg (using continental legal descriptions, not UK law).

Have you had experience of the 660 and later Garmin Campers?  Are they better on the basic satnav functionality (I don't want or need or the silly extras!)?

I realise this thread is a year old, but would anybody like to update their experiences of using this kit?   For instance

When it says you can put in your own points of interest etc, is this via OSGB 6 figure references, Lat/Long, or What3Words / more than one of these?

Can you plot your own route on it?

The car satnav is simply dreadful in towns such as Leeds.  I have managed to take quite a number wrong terms due to poor instructions / mapping, even with a "co-pilot".  What is this one like for giving clear guidance?

After reading John slevin's post I bought the cheaper Trucker model for our annual spring French holiday being fed up with our old basic TomTom sending us down silly routes. I entered the motorhome dimensions and set off putting the TomTom next to the CMNAV to observe the variations. The Trucker worked perfectly, no having to about turn because a looming bridge was too narrow. Our autumn trip to Germany was next and the Trucker crashed outside Dresden. An E-mail to Christian at CMNAV could not resolve the issue so it was back to the TomTom, which did get us back home without any hiccups. Christian's only explanation was that the basic Trucker could not cope with the German road's database. I sent the Trucker back with a a cheque to buy the next Trucker model up(he had previously agreed to this transaction). The upgraded Trucker has worked perfectly on our current Iberian holiday, the acid test will be Germany later on in the year.

Thanks.  Sounding good for the higher spec version then, especially as you have used it outside the UK.  

After service of CMNAV is first class. I broke screen on camper version, my fault and not a warranty issue. I contacted Christian he told me to return it and he would repair it. Had satnav back in two days at only minimum cost. Can't get much better service than that.
